Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Resident (Medical/Surgical, Variable Shift, 0.9 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:
Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate patient’s care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes.
Effectively advocate for ethical and holistic care to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs of those we serve.
Foster a learning environment for patient/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team including students.
Align practice with safety and quality.
Be accountable for safety, identify and correct problems.
Engage in ongoing professional development; promote a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates and disseminates research and evidence based practice.
Lead and coordinate teams, delegate, coordinate care and collaborate with others as equal members of the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Nursing degree/diploma upon hire
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher within 3 years of hire
Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis at each facility by the most senior administrative nursing leader in consultation with the Human Resources leader
Unencumbered RN license in state(s) of hire, and wherever care is delivered. If RN holds a multi-state license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider card upon hire from any of the following authorized governing bodies: American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Military Training Network (MTN)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) within 1 year of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) within 1 year of hire
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 1 year of hire
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) must be from American Academy of Pediatrics of American Heart Association (AAPAHA) within 1 year of hire
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) must be from Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) within 1 year of hire
Completed a pre-licensure nursing program and is newly licensed
Length of time since graduation can vary; however, typically is less than 12 months from graduation
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing upon hire
National Certification in area of specialty
About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
