Providence RN Clinical Educator Emergency Department in Torrance, California
Providence is calling a Clinical Educator (Full-Time/Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance Hospital in Torrance, CA.
We are seeking a Clinical Educator who will serve as a consultant, educator, researcher, and clinical expert for the medical center and service area. Demonstrate expertise in the care of age specific patient population (e.g., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics) according to clinical specialty, and participates in related continuing education..
In this position you will:
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, and safety standards.
Serve as a resource person and a role model in specialty area. Support and facilitate nursing assessment, care planning, patient/family education, and clinical problem solving for complex or difficult care situations.
Assess staff educational needs; develops and implements programs/learning activities to meet these needs. Monitor outcomes of learning as evidenced by competency assessment.
Develop, organize, conduct, and supervise programs for orientation, training, in service, and continuing education based on learning needs assessments.
Participate with student instructors in planning and evaluating clinical assignments for students in area of specialization.
Act as a resource in area of specialty for orientation preceptors, preceptees, Transition into Practice (TIPs) and students. Collaborate with others in the development of brochures and posters to publicize educational programs/learning activities according to organizational guidelines.
Coordinate with outside educators to present courses within the medical center or service area. Recruit employees with specific expertise to present or assist in presenting courses. Model, teach, and support others in developing lesson planning and presentation skills, including the use of audiovisual equipment, computers, and other aids.
Schedule classes, according to Providence Health System priorities. Maintain required course documentation including accurate records of personnel attendance/participation in educational programs.
Utilize clinical information systems to manage data, monitor outcomes and develop reports.
Participate in staff learning needs assessments.
Adhere to the documentation system within Education Department of continuing education activities according to BRN and department guidelines
Investigate new products, equipment, and techniques; participate in and/or coordinate clinical trials, in services, and competency assessments; evaluate and make recommendations to appropriate committees.
Assist leaders in developing competency assessment tools.
Collaborate with other health professionals and partners to design, develop, and evaluate patient educational programs, materials, and related staff protocols.
Collaborate with Clinical Academy to facilitate TIP programs, design, develop, revise, implement, instruct, and evaluate educational programs, and materials.
Consult with individuals and multi disciplinary groups on health care issues, demonstrating effective use of change and systems theory in the process.
Facilitate development, implementation, review, and revision of department, medical center, and service area policies, procedures, and standards of care related to areas of expertise.
Act as a participant, resource, and facilitator for department, specialty area, medical center, and service area performance improvement and compliance activities. Have knowledge of tracer methodology.
Maintain current knowledge regarding Joint Commission, CMS and regulatory bodies including knowledge of tracer methodology. Commits to actively participate in ongoing compliance and resolution.
Utilize nursing theory and current research to support and improve health care practice. Convey nursing theories and research findings to staff. Participate in conducting clinical and health care delivery system research.
Participate in professional organizations and community activities.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops. Demonstrate understanding of Association of Nursing Professional Development model and meets role responsibilities.
Attend meetings as required, and participates on committees as directed.

Following training will serve as adjunct simulation faculty for regional simulation.

Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Advanced study in area of clinical specialization
Course work in adult education principles
Performance Improvement and research methodology
Current California Registered Nurse License.
Basic Life Support
ACLS required for specialty educator serving Critical Care, Progressive Care, Emergency Dept. areas.
New graduates - within 365 days from date of hire.
Transfers - within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation
PALS required within 180 days of hire for educators serving in Emergency Dept.,NICU, Pediatrics.
New graduates - 365 days from date of hire
Transfers - within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation.
NRP required for employees in L&D, NICU, Nursery, Postpartum.
Postpartum - within 90 days from date of hire
Other areas - within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation
New graduates - 365 days from date of hire.
3 years Acute hospital experience in clinical specialty area.
1 year Experience in adult education, patient/family education
Ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills at all levels of an organization.
Demonstrated ability to teach individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Demonstrated direct patient care and clinical consultation skills.
Curriculum design and evaluation skills.
Ability to organize and manage multiple concurrent projects and utilize human and other resources effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence / motivate staff in the pursuit of improvement.
Requires strong working knowledge/ability of computers and current software programs.
Team oriented; promotes unity in achieving goals under strategic plan of the department.
Ability to perform scientific and evidence based practice inquiry.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge Microsoft Office skills.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Nursing or current enrollment in Master's Degree Program
Nursing specialty certification, preferred and expected within two years.
