Providence is calling a Assistant Nurse Manager (Full-time/Day shift) at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.

We are seeking Assistant Nurse Manager this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

In this position you will :

  • SERVICE:

  • Promote patient, physician and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect

  • Supports and participates in activities that foster customer service

  • Communicates and follows the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.

  • PEOPLE:

  • Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education

  • Attendsand successfully completes general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements

  • Participate actively in department staff meetings

  • Demonstrate mastery of verbal and written communications

  • Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations Adult and Geriatric.

  • Effectively communicates information, verbally and in writing to customers, co-workers, and key individuals to ensure team cohesiveness.

  • Providesdirect patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Provide leadership for the unit, ensuring appropriate care and interventions, as well as customer service focus. Demonstrates and models professionalism, critical thinking, clinical judgment and partnership in all interactions. Treats all people with respect and is responsive to their needs.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive, professional image of nursing by supporting and cultivating strong nursing morale on unit(s).

  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. Is able to use all patient care equipment in the area. Directs maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.

  • In charge of daily operations. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur using the steps of progressive discipline.

  • Assure complete and accurate documentation of the nursing process for each patient; ensures accurate maintenance and confidentiality of the patient’s medical record.

  • Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics for administrative purposes and budget preparations.

  • Assist in the coordination of student clinical experience and the orientation of new staff.

  • Actively participates in the development and application of systems that enhance professional staff development. Enhances own professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

  • Effectively manages the human resources of the unit. Assures adequate staffing and skill mix for provision of services. Monitors and evaluates work performance, including customer service component for all levels of staff. Appropriately interviews, hires, reviews, promotes, transfers and separates personnel. Provides disciplinary action that is fair, objective, developmental and timely; monitors performance improvement plans for staff, as needed. Completes staff evaluations on time. Delegates assignments appropriately based on individual levels of competence.

  • Evaluates all codes in the unit/department for quality and appropriateness.

  • Reviews trends in acuity data regularly and ensures that acuity is used in staffing.

  • Achieves/maintains certification in specialty area or nursing leadership. Actively participates in a professional organization related to specialty or management.

  • Prepare work schedules, ensuring assignments for personnel are adequate and appropriate per given hospital standards and acuity guidelines.

  • Utilizing a case management approach, the Assistant Nurse Manager plans, guides, directs, coordinates, and collaboratively incorporates the overall aspects of patient care across the continuum by effectively communicating with physicians, staff and other disciplines.

  • Review Unusual Occurrence Reports in a timely manner; notices trends and informs Manager of emerging issues immediately.

  • Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.

  • Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and the department.

  • Monitor and assists with the evaluation of work performance, including customer service component for all levels of staff.

  • Provide clinical leadership for the unit, ensuring appropriate care and interventions, as well as customer service focus.

  • Assist attending physicians and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.

  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. Is able to use all patient care equipment in the area.

  • Assist with of daily operations. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur up to and including final written warning for noncompliant staff.

  • Ensure accurate maintenance and confidentiality of the patient’s medical record.

  • Direct maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.

  • Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics for administrative purposes and budget preparations.

  • Assist with responsible management of labor resources, including minimizing use of overtime.

  • Coordinate the department with other nursing units and other hospital departments.

  • Assist with orienting, instructing, and training assigned personnel.

  • Provide for the immediate supervision of staff members and New Graduate RN’s.

  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

  • Actively participates in the development and application of systems that enhance professional staff development.

  • Evaluate all codes in the unit/department for quality and appropriateness.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

  • Current CA RN license

  • Current BLS-HCP- ACLS as required by area of specialty

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire

  • 3 years in recent clinical experience at an acute care hospital in their specialty area

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing

  • National Certification

  • Charge Nurse/Relief Charge Nurse experience

  • Leadership experience

  • Shared Governance experience
