Providence Nursing Shift Supervisor in Seaside, Oregon
Description:
Providence is calling a Nursing Shift Supervisor to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR.
(0.9 FTE, 12 hour shifts, 3 days per week r ota ting every other weekend)
We are seeking a Nursing Shift Supervisor who will hold responsibility for the management of the hospital during those hours when the nursing unit managers, other department managers and administration are not in house. He/she is in charge of the general operation of the hospital. Demonstrates a wide range of general nursing and unit specific skills, including application of the nursing process. Provides leadership for the daily operations of the nursing units. Leads and develops staff by role modeling professional practice and effective management skills. Provides input into and helps achieve unit goals. Supports the philosophy of nursing and the goals of the institution.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
LEADERSHIP:
Act in place of management and administration after hours or when they are not available
Appropriately refers to department manager and/or Administrator on Duty to keep them informed or solicit assistance
Mentor staff and promotes the professional practice of staff
Share clinical knowledge and expertise with staff
Monitor staff compliance with standards of care, hospital and nursing polices, procedures, standards, and regulations to ensure safe scope of care and compliance
Correct non-compliance and documents issues
Documentation is sent immediately to Managers of departments
Handle conflict resolution with positive outcomes and coaches/supports staff to do likewise
Involve staff in decision-making processes
Identify own professional growth and development needs and acts appropriately
Provide/facilitate coordination of multidisciplinary care planning and care activities
Support all departments with appropriate direct care as needed and within documented competencies
Comply with hospital RN standards when providing direct patient care
Complete assignments /project in a timely manner and requests assistance as necessary
HUMAN RESOURCES:
Participate in the acquisition, retention, and disciplinary action of personnel as needed
Follow hospital policy, collective bargaining agreements, and federal/state regulations in employment and disciplinary practice
Encourage staff’s participation in department and hospital committee/activities/professional opportunities by motivating interest and facilitating staff coverage to allow participation
Direct staff to perform to a level of clinical competence as defined by their job description
COMMUNICATION:
Serve as a communication liaison between staff and nursing/hospital administration
Keep department managers informed of issues through complete documentation and verbal communication
Use proactive problems solving involving health care team members in delivering quality care
Keep health care team members informed of changes affecting their delivery of care as needed
Work cooperatively with Charge Nurses to facilitate excellent patient care
Communicate with patient and families, addressing their concerns/issues in a timely manner
Assist in maintaining an environment conducive to attainment of job satisfaction for Staff members
Establish and promote collegial relationships with members of the health care team, services, administration, and ancillary departments
BUDGET AND STANDARDS:
Follow the staffing plan for nursing departments and utilizes resources appropriately with daily staffing
Monitor use of agency staff, ensuring that all other resources are utilized prior to using agency staff
Actively monitor and counsel regarding supply use, as appropriate
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
Support Quality Improvement Process as a method for evaluating the quality of care through participation in quality initiative planning and implementation
Facilitate staff knowledge and participation
Provide feedback to staff on quality improvement issues and assures staff compliance with initiates through monitoring, audits, and counseling of staff members
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Current license as a Registered Nurse with the Oregon State Board of Nursing
Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
ACLS, PALS and NRP certifications within six (6) months of hire
Three (3) years of Emergency Department (ED) -OR- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience -OR- combination thereof
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Experience in Emergency Department (ED)
