Providence is calling a Staff Educator (RN) (Full-Time, Day Shift) at Providence Saint Johns Medical Foundation in Santa Monica, CA.

We are seeking a Staff Educator (RN) who will provide education and training of employees in clinical areas and participates in the coordination of all regulatory and quality processes in ambulatory care, i.e., infection control, patient safety, coordination of DHS visits, AAAHC Accreditation, staff licensing and performance improvement. Maintains a customer-oriented focus in all aspects of training, ensuring that employees are properly trained to perform job functions. Ensures feedback to managers regarding training needs of employees.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide diabetes management and education to patients and staff. Perform job functions timely and efficiently:

  • Deliver upon the service expectations of both our patients and fellow staff members by listening to their needs; engaging in positive interactions; and following through on promises made in a thoughtful, efficient, timely and courteous manner so that their total outcome is better than expected.

  • Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients.

  • Work in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards. Report any unsafe conditions to their supervisor and/or the safety hotline.

  • Develop and teach educational programs for staff in clinical areas, including the curriculums, syllabus, handouts, tests and evaluations. Maintains program files.

  • Provide education to staff in classroom, small groups and one-on-one settings.

  • Assist with orientation of new employees in classroom and in clinical setting.

  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of the current EMR system and is a Super User.

  • Assist with one-on-one patient education.

  • May provide American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers instruction for employees and community classes.

  • Must have flexible hours.

  • Demonstrate awareness of current state, federal and local laws governing the delivery of care:

  • Use appropriate reporting mechanisms as required by state laws.

  • Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients.

  • Obtain appropriate authorizations and consents for treatment.

  • Maintain current American Heart Association ACLS and BLS for Health Care Providers and other appropriate licensure/certifications.

  • Provide open and timely communication with patients, families and their significant others:

  • Provide sufficient information to allow patients and their significant others to participate in the patient’s care.

  • Provide educational resources to the patient/family as appropriate.

  • Demonstrate commitment to education and sharing of knowledge:

  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel to the office.

  • Obtain ongoing education consistent with level and area of practice.

  • Maintain current American Heart Association ACLS and BLS for Health Care Providers and other appropriate licensure/certifications.

  • Participate in quality improvement audits annually or more often as needed.


Required qualifications in this position includes:

  • Current California RN license

  • American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers

  • ACLS

  • 3 years work experience

  • Experience with medical office supplies and equipment

  • Excellent teaching skills including presentation, development of syllabus and handouts

  • Must have the ability to successfully work with Medical Assistants, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurses, Physicians and Core Leadership Teams in designing, implementing and monitoring key operational initiatives

  • Must have exceptional clinical knowledge and judgment

  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Viso)

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (both verbal and written)

Preferred qualifications in this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field

  • BLS Instructor

  • PALS

  • Ambulatory care experience
