We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Supervisor who will be responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager or Director in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating services of the unit. It is expected that the CS manages and coordinates the unit, directs and supervises caregivers, functions and activities, interprets policies/procedures/protocols, standards, and regulations as appropriate. CSs scope of responsibility spans all aspects of nursing care. The CS maintains clinical competence and certifications to assist the unit when required.
In this position you will:
Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate patients’ care
Develop, update and coordinate the patient’s plan of care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes and transitions across the care continuum
Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate
Perform and maintain currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served
Effectively advocates for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs of those we serve
Foster a learning environment for patient/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team including students; facilitates formal and informal learning for patient/families, nursing, other members of the healthcare team, and community
Be accountable for safety, identifies and corrects problems, and integrates evidence, and best practice into nursing care; uses data and evidence to improve patient outcomes
Align patient safety, self-safety and environmental safety as equally important for best outcomes
Engage in ongoing professional development; practices to the top of license within the legal parameters of the Nurse Practice Act, the Nursing Social Policy Statement, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and specialty standards
Promote a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates and disseminates research and evidence based practice.
Lead and coordinate teams, appropriately delegates, coordinates care and collaborates with others as equal members of the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge, Models professional behaviors as a representative of the nursing profession
Maintain responsibility for the management and staffing of the unit for the assigned shift. Expected to respond to concerns from caregivers related to staffing, scheduling, and any other unit concerns
Assume direct reporting responsibility for assigned department/unit staff members and is responsible for evaluating work performance, conducting performance evaluations, counseling, coaching and professional development of caregivers
Independently investigates caregiver alleged misconduct and makes recommendations regarding discipline including discharge
Involve manager/director; and Human Resources when appropriate
Manage staff productivity and makes adjustments in a timely manner to ensure effective stewardship and patient safety
Manage employee electronic timekeeping record and approves as required
Participate in the selection, training and orientation of unit caregivers
Supervise care provided by caregivers by maintaining high visibility to patients/families and staff in the clinical area(s)
Ensure accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information
Implement and maintain established department, unit and hospital policies, procedures, budgets, goals and objectives including safety, environmental and infection control domains
Participate in organizational performance improvement programs (Lean principles and Six Sigma)
Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and the department
Consult with nursing administration concerning management of assigned units and all related matters
Follow-up on staff compliance for annual competencies, required education, and employee health requirements and ensure these requirements are enforced in a timely manner
Establish and maintain communication between the nursing unit and ancillary departments for the purpose of problem solving
Utilize appropriate lines of communication within the nursing department
Inspect area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur
Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families that allows for the delivery of high quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards
Assist attending physicians, patients, and families as needed in times of stress or crisis
Direct maintenance of department facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff
Serve as a professional role model, coach and resource for employees
Participate actively in Nursing, Shared Governance, and/or hospital committees and work groups
Assist in investigating complaints of patients, nursing staff, and medical staff, and takes appropriate action; follows up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled
Interview caregivers to ensure accuracy of documentation
Activate the chain of command when addressing patient, caregiver or department concerns
Evaluate patient outcomes, consults with other inter-professionals as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops
Seek opportunities for applying Evidence Based Practice and potential Nursing Research
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Supervisors
Employed prior to 1/1/17 who have not obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years from 1/1/17
RN license in state(s) of hire, and wherever care is delivered
If RN holds a multi-state license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider card must be from the following authorized governing bodies:
American Heart Association (AHA),
American Red Cross (ARC), - or-
Military Training Network (MTN) upon hire
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) must be from American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)/AHA within six (6) months of hire
Three (3) years of recent clinical experience in an acute care hospital in specialty area
One (1) year of Charge Nurse/Relief Charge Nurse experience
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
Proven leadership ability and hospital operational expertise
Mentoring/coaching ability
Able to serve as a role model and advocate for the professional discipline of nursing
Strong knowledge base or experience in specialty areas assigned
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Master's Degree in Nursing
ANCC recognized specialty certification
Shared Governance experience
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and electronic communication
