Providence Health & Services Team Assistant in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Team Assistant to Providence Home Services-Hospice Access in Portland, OR.

This Team Assistant position supports the Providence Hospice Bereavement Program.

The Bereavement Program serves hospice families and community members (adults, teens and children) who are grieving a loss through death.

This position is based out of our Home Services Halsey location.

In this position, you will:

  • Support Providence Home Services (HS) clinical intake and insurance through several support functions.

  • Process of faxed patient referral information for all lines of business.

  • Perform data entry of referral/intake information into computer systems and programs.

  • Assign ICD-9 codes to patient diagnoses.

  • Set up referrals with Network Provider partners for out-of-area and overflow cases, report statistical data, and other support functions for the nursing and insurance staff in the Clinical Intake and Insurance Department.

  • Represent HS to customers and effectively promote HS services/products to ensure referrals are processed in a timely manner.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Educational course work in medical terminology or equivalent work experience

  • Successful completion of ICD-9 diagnosis coding coursework -or- 5 years of recent coding experience

  • 1 year of experience in a medical setting

  • 1 year of experience with computers in data entry and inquiry

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced work environment with frequent interruptions

  • In compliance with the Providence Health & Services-Oregon Human Resources policy #302 “Background Checks”, a criminal background check, based on assigned duties

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in home care

  • 1 year of experience with insurance verification, medical claims processing, insurance member enrollment or customer service

  • 2 years of experience with computers in data entry and inquiry
