Providence Health & Services On-call RN - Surgical Oncology in Portland, Oregon
Providence is looking a RN - Surgical Oncology (0.0 FTE, Nights) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.
This is an on-call/per-diem position; working as needed.
Schedules are prepared for 28 day or monthly periods and are posted at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the scheduled period.
The on-call RN must be available for at least 4 open shifts during each 28-day or monthly schedule period which may include any open shifts of between 4 and 12 hours in length, at the nurse's discretion. The on-call RN may completely opt out of 1 work schedule each calendar year, provided the nurse notifies the medical center in advance of the preparation of the work schedule. The 4 available shifts must include any two of the following: weekend, evening, night, holiday, and/or standby or on-call shifts as assigned by the Medical Center. At least 1 of the assigned shifts in a calendar year will be on a holiday, and the holiday will be rotated between winter (New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day) and summer holidays (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day) in alternate years.
This is a 24-bed unit with a majority of patients seen having a surgical oncology focus and/or abdominal surgery focus as well as head and neck surgeries. Not everyone seen on the unit has cancer, but a majority do.
We are seeking a Registered Nurse - Surgical Oncology who will provide professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment. Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Key functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate patients’ care
Develop, update and coordinate the patient’s plan of care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes and transitions across the care continuum
Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate
Perform and maintain currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served
Be effectively advocate for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs of those we serve
Foster a learning environment for patient/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team including students; facilitate formal and informal learning for patient/families, nursing, other members of the healthcare team, and community.
Be accountable for safety, identify and correct problems, and integrate evidence, and best practice into nursing care; use data and evidence to improve patient outcomes
Align patient safety, self-safety and environmental safety as equally important for best outcomes
Engage in ongoing professional development; practice to the top of license within the legal parameters of the Nurse Practice Act, the Nursing Social Policy Statement, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and specialty standards
Promote a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates and disseminates research and evidence based practice
Lead and coordinate teams, appropriately delegate, coordinate care and collaborate with others as equal members of the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge, model professional behaviors as a representative of the nursing profession
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire
All Registered Nurses (RNs) without a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing must obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher within 3 years of hire.
A RN with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a Bachelor's degree in nursing
Unencumbered RN license in Oregon (OSBN)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from the following:
American Heart Association (AHA) - (BLS Provider),
American Red Cross (ARC) - (BLS for Healthcare Provider), or
Military Training Network (MTN) – (Healthcare Provider) upon hire.
One (1) year of acute care experience working with the patient population similar to the Surgical Oncology -OR- completion of the specialty residency located at Providence Portland Medical Center
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's degree in nursing
National Certification in Oncology (i.e. OCN)
