We are seeking a Nursing Supervisor - Nursing Service Administration that will be accountable for the provision and quality of nursing services at the facility level for a defined shift, in support of Providence Health & Services System and Regional goals. This includes assuring a balance of optimal and efficient patient care; staff, patient, and physician satisfaction; and cooperative partnerships with other organizational departments and professional groups. With a constant focus on patient-centeredness, and staff and patient safety, the Nursing Supervisor supports standards and systems for care delivery for their facility. These systems of care delivery promote evidence-based practice and are designed to support the management of productivity targets within a context of constant change in patient volumes, patient acuity, and available resources.
Provides leadership that consistently supports efficient and effective patient care services, and that support the organizational and system goals. This includes advancing the strategic vision and goals of the Oregon Nursing Center of Excellence. Constructively manages change and promotes a team-based approach.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
DOMAIN: Diagnostic and Monitoring Function:
Use independent, critical judgment in all aspects of patient care delivery
Manage clinical information by (a) reviewing clinical findings [data], (b) interpreting and transforming those data to information, and (c) applying professional knowledge
Provide leadership for the interdisciplinary patient care team to facilitate their work to integrate the nursing plan of care into the patient's interdisciplinary plan of care
Coordinate, assign and supervise appropriate activities involved in the nursing plan of care nursing care team members as required
Document all assessments, plans and interventions in the patient's clinical record that they perform
Respect and support the patient's Sacred Space through presence and creating a healing environment
Provide safe passage by ensuring safe care processes and healing environments throughout the hospital stay
Provide consistent emotional and informational support to patients and families
Assist the clinical staff to tailor caring processes to the individuality and uniqueness of each patient and family
DOMAIN: Teaching/Coaching Function:
Provide patient and family education that is patient-centered, appropriate to the health care setting and that facilitates recovery, health maintenance, health promotion or a peaceful, comfortable death
Teach, mentor and precept other nurses and interdisciplinary team members
DOMAIN: Administering and Monitoring Therapeutic Interventions and Regimens:
Assist in determining the most appropriate, evidence-based nursing interventions for the specific patient
Facilitate the implementation of evidence-based interventions according to the Nursing Plan of Care
Protect vulnerable patients from complications of hospitalization by evaluating risks, monitoring for early signs of complications, and individualizing the Nursing Plan of Care based on the patient's vulnerability
Administer medications accurately and safely, and monitors and documents adverse effects, reactions, therapeutic responses, toxicity and incompatibilities when needed to assist clinical staff
Document interventions and patient responses in the patient record
DOMAIN: Monitoring and Ensuring the Quality of Health Care Practices:
Constantly focuses on improving nursing care quality by readjusting care strategies and priorities reflecting critical evaluation of patient care and outcomes
Advocate for patient rights and responsibilities
Follow evidence-based standards and practices and maximize safe patient care
Know about, complies, and translates to others internal and external regulatory patient care requirements
Participate in quality improvement and nursing research activities at the unit/facility level
Honor patient and family values even when they differ from the nurse's personal values
DOMAIN: Organizational and Professional Development:
Communicate in a positive and constructive manner
Work collaboratively with others, maintaining communication and behaviors that facilitate teamwork
Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in response to unexpected changes in workload and/or patient status within a shift
Reassign resources as a response if needed
Participate actively as an interdisciplinary team member, and leader
Incorporate conflict management skills in resolving issues within the clinical team
Coordinate, order, and meet multiple patients' needs by realigning priorities as needed
Recognize personal learning needs and sets goals for further clinical and professional development for self
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Current Oregon RN license
BLS Healthcare Provider
Six (6) years of Nursing with experience in progressive leadership roles
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Master's Degree in Nursing or in related field
