Providence is offering a $5,000 Sign-On Bonus to external candidates hired for this position. $2,500 paid at start and $2,500 paid after 1 year of employment.
Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Circulator Operating Room (Surgical Services, Day Shift, 0.8 FTE, 32 Hours Per Week) to Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, Washington. In this position you will:
Assess the physiological health status of the patient.
Verify the operative procedure using the consent form, patient’s statement and if needed the surgeon’s verification prior to procedure.
Notes the condition of the skin for rashes, bruises, lesions and previous incisions.
Determines mobility of the body utilizing the patient’s statement, range of motion, and the history & physical.
Reports deviation of diagnostic studies such as lab or radiology reports. Identifies presence of prosthesis such as dentures, pacemakers and joint prosthesis/implants.
Notes nutritional status such as patient has been NPO.
Verifies allergies to medication, food , or chemicals.
Communicates and documents physiological data to other members of the health care team in verbal or written report, including data which may be relevant to discharge planning.
Assess the psychological health status of the patient/family
Elicits patient expectations of care and outcome of surgery.
Determines level of knowledge and ability to understand, such as language barrier and seeks assistance as necessary.
Identifies philosophical, religious and cultural beliefs concerning the intraoperative phase, such as blood transfusions, disposition of limbs, and sacraments.
Communicates and documents psychological data to other members of the health care team in verbal or written report, including data which may be relevant to discharge planning.
Establish realistic and attainable goals based on nursing diagnosis and develop a plan of care based on nursing actions to achieve patient goals.
Provides positioning aids during the intra-operative phase to prevent skin breakdown or impairment of the nervous or vascular system.
Provides equipment to insure patient safety in regards to the use of electro cautery or laser during the procedure.
Coordinates use of supplies and equipment for intraoperative care.
Organizes nursing activities in logical sequence, prioritizing nursing duties.
Coordinates patient care needs with other members of the health care team.
Assigns activities to appropriate personnel based on their qualifications and the patient needs.
Maintains required certifications (CPR/ACLS/PALS) and performs effectively in an emergency situation.
Communicates and documents the patient’s plan of care to the health care team in verbal or written report, including that which may be relevant to discharge planning.
Implement nursing actions in transferring the patient according to plan of care.
Confirms the patient’s identity using the ID bracelet and verbal conformation from the patient/family.
Selects appropriate personnel for transport as determined by patient acuity and number of staff needed.
Provides emotional needs during transport.
Communicates and documents method of transport.
Participate in patient/family teaching.
Participates in pre-operative teaching as needed, such as explanation of surgical routine and environment.

Create and Maintain a sterile field
Uses principles of aseptic technique in varying situations, such as infection control practices, skin preps, demonstrating knowledge of clean vs. sterile. Initiates corrective action when breaks in sterile technique occur.
Maintains sterility while opening sterile supplies for procedure, including pouring solutions onto the field.
Inspects sterile supplies for integrity of package, sterile indicator and/or outdates prior to delivery to sterile field.
Adheres to dress code policy for peri-operative areas.
Monitors suite to insure that movement around the sterile field is appropriate at all times.
Provide equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
Anticipates needed equipment and supplies, utilizing the surgeon preference lists.
Selects equipment and supplies in an organized, timely and cost effective manner.
Assures all equipment is functioning before use.
Operates mechanical, electrical and powered equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions and the centers policy.
Removes malfunctioning equipment from service, tags it appropriately and initiates repair.
Uses supplies judiciously and in a cost-effective manner.
Communicates and documents provisions of equipment and supplies including charges.
Performs sponge and needles counts
Follows polices for sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
Initiates corrective action when a count is incorrect.
Communicates and documents results of count according to policy.
Administer drugs and solutions as prescribed.
Administers medications according to policy.
Communicates and documents administration of medications and solutions according to policy, including medication errors.
Monitor and control the environment.
Controls the environment in the OR to provide ultimate patient care, such as temperature of room, sensory stimuli, and traffic and noise level.
Standing by when the anesthesiologist begins induction of anesthesia to assist and ensure patient safety.
Positions the patient to avoid any pressure points and maintain good alignmen
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
Adheres to sanitation policies for infection control including confine and contain waste disposal.
Safe handling of specimens.
Respect patient’s rights
Demonstrates awareness and practices according to the Patient’s Bill of Rights and the Center’s policies.
Provides for patient safety and maintains patient confidentiality.
Communicates and documents provisions for patient’s rights as appropriate.

Required qualifications for this position include:
Coursework/Training; Graduate from an Accredited Nursing Program.
Current Washington State Nursing License.
Current BLS – Healthcare Provider (must be AHA accredited) for Department 72000 (ASC) required within 30 days of hire.
Current ACLS - Healthcare Provider (must be AHA accredited) for Department 72000 (ASC) required within 6 months of hire.
Current PALS- Healthcare Provider (must be AHA accredited) for Department 72000 (ASC) required within 6 months of hire.
All Registered Nurses without a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) must obtain a BSN or higher within 3 years of hire. RNs with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN.
Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of hire, and wherever care is delivered. If RN holds a multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), the RN must adhere to the requirements of licensure in the new state(s) of hire.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
1 year recent experience in perioperative services; operating Room experience.
