Providence is calling a Lactation Educator (On Call/Variable shifts ) to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.

We are seeking a Lactation Educator who will serve as a lead educator that will provide breast-feeding education and assistance to in-patients and outpatients. The educator will also provide education to nursing staff. This will ensure that consistent support is available to all patients.
In this position you will:
Provide clear, consistent information and breast-feeding assistance to new mothers according to guidelines and approved protocols.
Coordinate and promotes appropriate use and follow up to patients using breast pumps.
Demonstrate proficiency and participates in age appropriate education activities as it relates to infants, adolescent and adults.
Communicate with the Women and Children's nursing and medical staff regarding patient care and lactation status.
Participate in the evaluation, coordination and maintenance of the breast-feeding educational materials.
Participate with Improving Organizational Activities.
Advocate breast-feeding to PHS employees and the community by attending forums, health fairs, lecture opportunities and related events.
Demonstrate the ability to identify and understand multi-cultural families.
Gives direction to Lactation Educators as applicable.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational Programs, professional affiliations, current literature, in-service meetings, and Workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Sufficient for certification.
2 years experience as a Certified Lactation Educator (prefer UCLA or IBCLC).
2 years experience in Postpartum, Newborn or Couplet Care nursing.
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish will be extremely helpful.
BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association. NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross, this will be accepted until expiration. At that time, renewal must be sponsored by the American Heart Association.
Current CA Driver’s License.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Certified Childbirth Educator (ICEA or Lamaze).
Current CA RN License.
