Providence Health & Services RN - MDS (Minimum Data Set) in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Registered Nurse - Minimum Data Set (MDS) (Nursing, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Extended Care in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Coordinate the completion of the Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS) and Resident Plan of Care for an assigned group of residents/cottages.
Ensure participation of the interdisciplinary team, resident and family as appropriate.
Provide RN oversight as Care Coordinator to ensure quality of care, quality of life and standards of practice.
Promote a resident-directed care model in the cottage setting and utilizes all aspects of the environment and care model to promote excellent care in a home setting to address the needs of the whole person, body, mind and spirit.
Functions as a liaison between nursing, other departments, resident, and resident representatives to achieve comprehensive understanding of resident needs to facilitate quality of care/life issues in addition to the RAI process.
Develops tools and techniques to integrate the Prospective Payment System (PPS) into the assessment practices in accordance with applicable regulations and facility standards.
Participates on committees as assigned. Attends staff meetings, in-service meetings and committees as necessary or required.
Educates new staff members regarding documentation MDS training and Electronic medical record system. Recommends staff educational needs to Staff Development. May assist in in-service education. Responds to all emergencies within the facility to transport equipment move residents or fill the role assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of an accredited school as a Registered Nurse
Current licensure in the State of Alaska as a Registered Nurse
1 year nursing experience in long-term care
Previous experience in the completion of MDS
Knowledge of RAI and care planning process to include the rules governing completion, date entry and transmission of the MDS to meet clinical reimbursement (PPS) and regulatory requirements
Knowledge of RAI/PPS time frames
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- RAI coordination certification

Providence Extended Care at the Cottages is located on a campus that includes eight cottages and a Commons Building. The Cottages are home to 96 residents. The Commons Building includes the facility reception area, Resident Bank, Gift Shop, Rehabilitation Therapies, Chapel, Supplies, Plant Services, Dietary, Support Services, Staff Development, Administration offices and Conference Rooms. The Cottages bear the names of Alaskan rivers and are arranged in alphabetical order along Compassion Circle.
Each cottage is a home that contains 12 private bedrooms/baths situated around a warm, inviting hearth and living area. An open kitchen allows residents and guests to enjoy the aromas and happenings of a kitchen, just like home. Each Cottage includes a Den along with a Spa and beauty/barber shop station. A patio off the dining area provides easy access to the outdoors and gardening opportunities. Large windows in the living area provide views for all to enjoy.
