Providence RN Clinical Manager - 5 North Medical Oncology in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Manager (5 North Medical Oncology, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska . In this position you will:
RESOURCE UTILIZATION: Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing and other services. Utilizes staffing management principles to assure adequate supply of all necessary staff to perform patient care. Plans for seasonal fluctuations and anticipates market changes which may impact volumes. Assures patient care is delivered in compliance to standards utilizing cost-effective methods. Explores options for expanding services and providing different services. Assists in development of annual operating budget, involving staff and physicians, as appropriate. Develops, implements, evaluates and modifies programs and services need to meet patient care and staff development needs. Exercises independent judgement to implement plans for operations in areas of responsibility.
LEADERSHIP: Provides visionary leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Uses leadership principles to anticipate and influence change. Determines resources and actions needed to accomplish objectives. Set priorities and manages time effectively. Identifies potential problems/opportunities and plans contingent action. Develops new and unique ideas to improve existing systems or operations, when new organizational approaches are needed. Collaborates with the medical director, CNE, ACNE/Director, other clinical mangers, clinical supervisors, patient care staff and informal leaders in these efforts. Encourages innovative efforts in others. Seeks creative methods to resolve conflicts. Promotes multi-disciplinary care of the patient.
QUALITY OF PRACTICE: Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services administration and the delivery of services. Able to provide clinical care at the expert level and is a role model for staff in the clinical setting. Leads the unit in developing, modifying and implementing patient care standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Establishes clear clinical practice expectations based on professional standards for areas of responsibility. Is responsible for the annual development and implementation of unit-based QI plans, incorporating appropriate aspects of the PHSA quality strategic plan. Indicators are identified and improvement processes utilize PDCA structure.
COLLABORATION: Collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, providers, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Assigns work and responsibly directs staff. Creates supporting systems that enable staff to jointly plan and deliver care. Role models collaboration and partnership with physicians, primary staff, patients, families and other departments. Schedules regular meetings with direct report staff to provide supervision, assure communication and to monitor facility operations; utilizes various methods to communicate with staff. Reviews or conducts, and documents annual performance evaluations on each direct report staff. Collaborates with staff, physicians and all appropriate Departments to promote optimal patient care and customer service. Models and mentors Providence Health and Services Standards of Service Excellence.
COMPLIANCE: Directs and administers assigned functions to ensure high quality, cost-effective patient services which meet or surpass accreditation standards. Maintains and guides the implementation of organization policies and procedures in compliance with state, Federal and other regulatory guidelines. Assures adequate preparation for, and participate in, regulatory compliance surveys.
EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EVALUATION: Maintains and uses leadership, managerial, organizational and technical knowledge of areas of responsibility. Assumes responsibility for obtaining information and expanding job knowledge and competency that reflects current practice. Role models personal development and education. Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Obtains managerial specialty certification as applicable and able.
COLLEGIALITY: Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
ETHICS: Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice. Follow the “Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services” developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
RESEARCH: Integrates research findings into practice. Stays informed of current evidence-based protocols and standards for the management for patients in the area of responsibility. Collaborates with physicians and staff to incorporate these protocols and standards into patient care. Assists in the development, implementation and modification of programs and services needed to meet patient care and staff development needs.
ADVOCACY: Advocates for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing and other professions, and institutions and organizations, especially related to health and safety.
HUMAN RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP: Directs and administers assigned positions and functions to ensure high quality, cost-effective patient services which meet or surpass accreditation standards. Uses appropriate interpersonal skills to guide others to accomplish objectives, facilitates teamwork, participation and cooperation. Delegates work so subordinates have the necessary direction, authority and skills to complete assignments. Assures timely performance evaluations that reflect validated competence, safety, and quality standards of practice. Develops and promotes talents of the team and succession planning. Counsels staff appropriately and is competent in conflict management.
Completes initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of an accrediated/approved school of nursing
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska required
Certification in clinical speciality within 12 months of hire
3 years recent management or supervisory experience. Supervisory experience may include leading teams in performance improvement activities. Charge nurse or similar experience may count for up to two years of the required experience
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
2 years of management experience in like-sized unit
